Synchronize Contacts causing duplicate contacts?

Any reason why Synchronize Contacts is causing duplicate person docs to exist in a users iNotesContacts hidden view, PAB and blackberry ?

Also, deleting all contacts from iNotesContacts view on users mail file deletes all contacts in users PAB after starting Synchronize Contacts. I would think that iNotesContacts is subordinate to the PAB.

Our code performs a number of different checks to determine if duplicates exist. This is based on a combination of email address, contact name.
