A user needs to access 5 different mailboxes on her computer, but she also needs to send mail as these 5 different users when she replies. Therefore I have set up 5 different locations and set it up to switch her user ID when she changes location. However, everytime she switches location it now asks her for the password for the relevant ID. Is there a way to set this up so that she doesn’t have to enter the password every time?Grateful if anyone has any clues.

Have you tried enabling Notes Single Logon service and making all of the passwords in the ID’s the same as the users’ LAN ID password? Not sure if this will work as I have never tried it but it should work in theory.

Hi Paul,That is a good idea and I think it probably will work - but I’m not sure how to enable single logon - is this something you install when you install the client?
Subject: RE: Switching User ID without entering passwords
yes, it’s part of the client intall, “Lotus Notes Single Logon” should show up as a service if it was installed. If not you can istall just that piece by reinstalling the client and doing a custom install to shoose just that option.
Subject: RE: Switching User ID without entering passwords
I don’t think this will work. Single sign-on checks the user name, not the password first. Which means as soon as you switch ids, there is no longer a match.
Ex:
Network ID = Joe User/abc
Notes ID1 = Joe User/abc
Notes ID2 = Jan User/abc
Password for all accounts = “butter”
If the user signs into the network as Joe User, and then launches notes (assuming the last Notes ID used was Joe User), SSO will work and they will not get prompted for a password. As soon as they try to switch to Notes ID 2, the Notes Name no longer matches the network name; which means that SSO is no longer valid. They are prompted to enter a password, even if it is the same as the previous id. Now, if they switch back to Notes ID1, SSO will again work and they won’t be prompted for a password.
I think your user is either going to have to live with typing in multiple passwords; or use a single id and multiple location documents. (The web interface trick won’t work for you either -the user will have to reauthenticate between ids each time as well.)

Katherine, still try changing the password on another ID and see if the NSL service honors it. I vaguely remember doing this in a test environment for a batch of IDs and I did not have to enter any passwords as long as they were all the same. Let me know.

Hi sorry for the late update but just wanted to say thanks - this did work in the end. I changed the passwords to match and yippee, the user does not need to enter the password everytime she switches ID.

First variant, in my opinion, is cleaning password in user.IDs, of course if user data isn’t important.Second is using the same user.id file with all locations, there are several moments on which you should draw attention:

Hi thanks for that-I didn’t actually realise that I could use the same user ID to access and send mail from all 5 mail accounts. I have already set the correct internet address in each location document - is this enough (without switching IDs) to make sure that when she replies to a message from a mailbox her reply comes from the right address?
Subject: RE: Switching User ID without entering passwords
Actually when you send message to notes addressee, internet mail address field don’t influence anything. Addressee see from what mailbox message was sent(mailbox owner) and who really sent the message (senders userid). Replies will be sent to “mailbox owner” address.
When you send message to inet addressee, they will be using “internet mail address” as reply address.
Subject: RE: Switching User ID without entering passwords
OK thanks - perhaps it would be enough to just do it this way without switching IDs, although the user would prefer that the messages appear to come from the correct address even to internal users. You said before that the only way to switch ID without entering a password would be to delete something from the user ID. How would I go about this and does it make the email account insecure?
Subject: RE: Switching User ID without entering passwords
Yes, you can clean password from user id (User security settings). User id is used in Notes client authentication on server, so if somebody stoles this copy of id file (with cleaned pass), he can access server with user id rights. In this case you should protect user.id in other ways ( NTFS security for example ), but password protection is most effective.
Other way to work with mailbox is web interface, in this case user.id isn’t used at all, but web interface is not as comfortable for user as Notes Client.

Hi and thanks again. Hmm I think it is probablt best not to blank the password then. The user is not happy to use a web interface unfortunately. Thanks very much for all your advice.
