When an employee resigns we would like to make available that employee’s mail file to that employees immediate supervisor. Any suggestion as to how to do that. We have considered forwarding emails to the supervisor and using delegation. It has been suggested to use replication but as I understand replication the supervisor wouldn’t have access anyway.

The way to give the supervisor access to the employee’s mail file is…well, to give the supervisor access to the employee’s mail file. Perhaps you’ve neglected to include some vital details, but you should be able to just add the supervisor to the ex-employee’s mail database’s ACL.

I would add one more step. Archive the database. That way you don’t clutter your mail sub-directory.
