There was talk of this back in the 8.0 forums. It would be AWESOME for developers to have the properties window (document, database, text, etc.) be in the sidebar in the client, and be a true, dockable Eclipse panel in DDE.
In DDE, we do have the properties in a true, dockable Eclipse panel - it’s just not in the sidebar. We haven’t moved all the infoboxes yet, but we will over time. Are you saying we should put them in the sidebar instead of in the normal place for Eclipse properties? That’s interesting, but would require different property layouts due to the real estate.
Subject: I agree… and we have not completely abandoned the idea…
However, I don’t know how high it is on the list for the next release. At least you can move it over to be on top of the sidebar so it won’t obscure what you’re working on…
but yes, it’s an idea that the design team really liked!
No, not necessarily the sidebar for DDE. The sidebar suggestion was primarily for the client.
Thanks for the information about the other infoboxes – getting those separated/moved/converted will save a lot of time.
I’m not certain if this is the case or not (I’d have to check), but it would extremely nice to be able to dock a set of properties (e.g. a document’s “fields” properties tab) and have it be persistent even when the context doesn’t apply.
For example, if I set up a doc’s “fields” properties tab the way I want it, and then select something where that context doesn’t apply, the tab stays on the screen/sidebar/whatever, but is just greyed out. Then, when the context is valid again, the tab lights up again with all of the new item’s properties.
It’s not uncommon for developers to need to mass-analyze/change properties across elements, and this would allow the desired properties tab(s) to stay visible, even while navigating to the next element that needs inspection.
