We are supporting an SSL setup with SSL client authentication. This has now been working for several years under Domino 5 and 6.
A problem has suddenly started to happen on two servers (one 6.0.1CF1 and another 6.5). When clients try to authenticate using SSL the error is:
“HTTP Server: SSL handshake failure, IP address [xxx], Keyring [xxx], [SSL Error: Bad or missing remote certificate], code [4163]”
This error started while the 6.0.1CF1 server was up and running. One minute it was working fine, the next all clients cause errors when authenticating. However, bringing a backup 6.5 server up has also resulted in the same problem on that.
This has been seen intermittently on an internal server on a few occasions and seems to be related to changed file permissions on the .kyr file on the server. Changing the file permissions to match those on the .sth file has always sorted it. However, this time it is on a live production server and nothing we have done has solved it.
There is no auto upgrade of Windows software, Domino software or browser software on the client or server and so we do not believe that there has been any software update recently which might cause this.
Does anyone have any ideas? - any help gratefully received!!
