String breaking

I have 2 dialog lists range1 and range2 which contains multiple dates separated by “comma”.e.g

range1 = date1 , date2 , date3

range2 = date11, date22, date33

now what i want to do is that I have to calculate difference between these 2 dialog lists element wise i.e.

date1 - date11 , date2 - date22 , date3 - date33.

I think that i can do this by putting these 2 dialog lists in 2 arrays and then subtract the array elements.

The problem I have that I need a function that can break the dialog list i.e. range1 = date1 , date2 , date3 should be broken as :

array1(1) = date1

array1(2) = date2

array1(3) = date3.

any idea that how can i do that?

Once you have values for range1, you can use “Split” function to split it and put it in an array.

From then on you can subtract the values as you want.

if you are working in formula language then you can easily achieve this by simply using the formula:

“range1 - range2”

in some computed field. This will give you result in a list format where each date in range1 will be substracted from range2 and result will appear in seconds. Which you can convert to days by dividing the result by “(60 * 60*24)”

Note: for this, make sure that your range1 and range2 fields are of “date/time” with “allow multi values” checked
