Streaming 8.5.1 Client with Citrix XenApp

Hi !

We are trying to stream the 8.5.1 Client from XenApp to end user workstations.

We used the installation command found in the "IBM Lotus Notes and Lotus iNotes 8.5.1 on

Citrix XenApp 4.5/5.0: A scalability analysis" document

setup /v"SETMULTIUSER=1 MULTIUSERBASEDIR=n:\ MULTIUSERCOMMONDIR=c:\Notes\common CITRIX=1"

Here is our problem :

The client streams to the workstation, it starts (the splash screen appears), we fill the setup wizard till end without any problem. But when we launch the client, the splash screen appears, the progress bar goes to 100% then the splash screen disappear and nothing happens …

Any clue to solve that ?

I’ve seen some other posts about this in the forum but none gives a solution

Best regards

Subject: In my point of view Notes 8.5.1 Standard client cannot be streamed

I’ve spent some time on this issue …To avoid misunderstandings: I am talking about a Lotus Notes 8.x Standard client, not a Lotus Notes basic client.

I was able to profile the client and as you descibe, the Notes client seems to be streamed successfully to a workstation.

That Notes starts with the setup screen may give you the illusion of a proper streaming, but in my point of view the setup screens only appear, because these parts are basic client technology.

As soon as the Expeditor client is initiated, nothing happens anymore…

In my point of view, the very problem is the path length of the citrix cache, it is simply far too long, so no current MS Operating System is able to access files in the local Citrix cache anymore, e.g. the file reference

C:\Program Files\Citrix\RadeCache\43eedfd1-bcd4-4cbf-9243-70c10ff5b900_1\Device\c\Program files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\framework\shared\eclipse\plugins\com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.multimedia.phonegrid.native.windows_8.0.2.20091217-1350\PhoneGridNativeWindows.jar

is 259 characters long.

As far as I know IBM did not test streaming and it is not supported.

And using a remote file server based data directory is neither supported by IBM…
