Strange Email Problem

We have had two occurences where someone’s computer behaves oddly when clicking on a link in an email–a link which points to a document in another database which automatically launches an attachment (a powerpoint file) when opened.

The first time this happened the user reported that his computer crashed. The second time, another user reported that the attachment opened up roughly 15 times.

Whats more, both times this happened the email was resent out from the user’s email. The resent email looks like the original email, but underneath the original sender’s name there is a Sent by: “name of user,” as if someone with proxy to another person’s email sent an email out for them. But none of the people involved have proxy rights to the original sender’s email database.

Also, the second time this happened a link to a notes database was embedded at the end of the email.

What’s worse is that the original email was sent to the entire company, and the ‘repeats’ are sent out to everyone as well, so it’s something of a high-profile problem–a problem that doesn’t make much sense to me.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this, or does anyone have any suggestions on what might cause it?

Thanks,
