I have seen some great “sticky note” apps on the web <some shareware/open source + fee-based>. It would be great to integrate this into a couple areas of our site to allow people to collaborate on proposals, etc. At the moment, we are using a comments field -w- appendtext, etc… I like the idea of these sticky notes that will show in different parts of the web doc. I would want it in read-mode. Anyone done this? I have seen 2 versions of the stickies… one that is only seen by the author and one for all.

There are a few ways to go with this one… couldn’t you just implement some discussion thread functionality? That would be easy enough to do. You could then get a bit fancier and maybe compute a subform containing an embedded view and put in some logic as to when you want to show it and which thread you want to show?

I have tried most all of the “native” Notes options. I am looking to integrate digital “post-it” notes in web apps. Here’s an example… http://www.mystickies.com/ Thanks for your response.

It would seem that this could work using a response hierarchy, as mentioned. Essentially, you just want to provide an in-lime form for adding a comment to a page. When the comment is uploaded, create a response document in the back-end, and place the text of the comment inside a newly created div on the main form. The div is floated and positioned, based on x/y coordinates captured during the onClick event. A bit of styling and a graphic perhaps on the div, to make it look nice, and there you go. You could, alternatively, or in conjunction, provide a separate look to creating the response documents, and then show a list of comment (response) documents to be selected and spawn a div for each one. A bit of css and adding response handlers to each div would allow you to move them around and use push-pin effects. I will think about it more when it’s not 0100, but the idea seems sound to a sleep-addled brain.
