Stats via e-mail

Greetings!

Without intending to date myself, I recall in early versions of Domino (before it was called Domino), that there was a provision for receiving server stats via e-mail. One would simply compose a blank message and send it to the stats agent address. A few minutes later, there would be an e-mail from “stats” that would be all of the server stats.

I think we’ve come up with a good use for that feature, but I can’t seem to make sense of it still being there. Does anybody know if it still exists?

I did find reference to a mail-in dB called statmail.nsf in the administrator help file. However, when I send a blank e-mail to the related address… seems to be nothing more than a mail file. The blank messages that I’ve sent, just accumulate in the statmail dB.

It is possible that someone before me fiddled with it, and it no longer works, but the ultimate problem really seems to be… I just can’t seem to find much reference to the function/feature.

Does anyone have ANY insights into this??

Thanks!

OK, kept plugging at it… found the answer!

The e-mail stats feature is still present. It is the statmail.nsf Db (mentioned previously). It does look to be an ordinary mail file. However, when the stats agent is running, it looks into this mail file and responds accordingly.

One item of note… any messages sent to the stats agent MUST be signed. If the box isn’t clicked when you send the message, you will receive you message back almost immediately, stating that it wasn’t signed (At least it tell you!).

The subject line controls what stats are returned. If you leave it blank, you get everything! If you want a specific stat, you place the fully qualified stat name in the subject line… that’s all you’ll get back… JUST that particular stat.

Subject: You can also get groups of stats and use the * wildcard…

For example, to get all SMTP.Session.* stats only, you can put smtp.sessions.*into the subject line…
