Can Microsoft SQLserver be used as an alternative datastore for lotus Notes NSF? Currently only available on DB2, but, any plans for SQLServer or any other DBs?
Subject: Um…
Unless you have the simplest of data models, it is simply not feasible to recreate all of the capabilities of NSF in a relational database. IBM learned this lesson the hard way with the DB2NSF project. IBM scrapped it, and as of 8.5.2 you won’t be able to even install DB2 as a datastore to replace NSF. If you’re already running it you’ll have to contact IBM support to get a key to allow it to install.
IBM made a statement a year ago or so stating that NSF was the strategic datastore for Notes/Domino, and that their future investments would be made to that architecture.
That being said, you still have all of the other built-in options to integrate with an SQL db: DECS, LEI, ODBC, etc.
