SQL 2005 JDBC driver not suitable with Domino7?

I recently updated to Domino 7.0.2 and MS SQL 2005.

Now I am trying to get my old connection code between Domino and SQL (recently working with Domino 6.5 and MS SQL 2000) to work with these new versions, but Domino keeps tellling me that the JDBC-driver that Microsoft offers is not suitable for the database connection. The exact error message is “HTTP JVM: java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver”.

I have the classpath correctly filled and the code to establish the connection is like this:

Class.forName(“com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver”).newInstance();

conn = DriverManager.getConnection(“jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://[the address]:1433;User=[the username];Password=[the pw]”);

I haven´t been able to find any advice to do this some other way with the new versions. It also should be clear that domino7 supports j2se1.4.2 and that Microsoft´s driver supports the exact same version.

Anyone could give a hint where to search next?

Sorry folks, this was a matter of changed parameters with driver usage (creating the connection) compared to the previous driver. Obviously the changes where not documented…

Hi Mikko,

Were you able to connect to SQL2005? using the correct driver name?

Class.forName(“com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver”);

I am having the problem connect to SQL2005, wondering if you could help me to figure out what went wrong if you’ve made the successful connection.

I have sqljdbc.jar file in classpath, still getting java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:java/nio/charset/Charset error from the agent run in Domino 7.

Thanks,

Evelyn

The Jar files that you are using, are they able to handle SQL 2005?

There maybe something different about SQL 2005 that the Jar files that you are using is not able to handle.

And yes I would also check your class path to make sure your Jar files are being pointed to correctly.

It is possible that when you upgraded to R7 it removed the class path or altered it…

I see that I didn´t explain the situation fully. I downloaded a new driver, especially made for SQL 2005 by Microsoft and added this new (one) jar-file to the classpath after the upgrade. So that should not be the problem.

I also tried this JavaUserClasses-parameter but it didn´t change anything compared to the server-document classpath-setup.

you didn’t lose the reference to the jdbc driver in the classpath by upgrading your server ? Javauserclasses ?
