Spell Check - Any Way to Get It to Ignore URLs?

Is there any way to keep Notes from spell checking hyperlinks?

I like to check my spelling and have set it as the default before I send my email. It always stops to verify the spelling of any links beginning with http://, https:// or ftp://.

I’ve seen this since v5 and I never understood why it has not been corrected.

I have looked under preferences but there are not options for it. I’ve searched through the forum but couldn’t find an answer to this question.

Any work-arounds?

Subject: Some Information On Spell Checker and URLs

Hi Phil,

I did some research and, unfortunately, at this point in time there is no Fix or Workaround for this issue. The only thing I’ve found that somewhat helps is that I select “Add To Dictionary” with all the URLs because I often send the same links to various people so it at least eases some of the frustration that can be caused by this. I was going to recommend calling into IBM Support and requesting to speak with the Notes Client Team and have them open an Enhancement Request Software Problem Report, but found there have already been 4 documented SPRs:

  1. HUR3YQPU5 - “Spell checker should ignore URLs and email addresses” - Closed/No Plans To Fix in this Codestream

  2. WEBB6XLQZP - “Ignore URL Setting in Spell Check” - Closed/Enhancement Request

  3. ATHS6J2LC6 - “Spell checker should not complain about URLs” -

Closed/No Plans to Fix Ever

  1. BHUY7Q3LJ5 - “Enhancement request: Notes spellchecker should ignore URLs and email addresses” - New

Overall, IBM is aware of this issue, but has not resolved it at this point in time.

I apologize that I was unable to be of much assistance, but hope this information is helpful in the event that anyone within your company is looking for any definitive answers.

Regards,

-Bob

Subject: Some Information On Spell Checker and URLs

Bob,Thanks for your response. And yes, I already have added the often used links to my spell checker. The problem is, I’m mostly using different links. Links I’ll only use that once.

I cannot understand why IBM would continue to be unresponsive to this issue.

What is the value in spell checking a hash of letters and numbers?

It’s just another reason why I (and my users) would love to see us move away from Lotus Notes.

Thanks again,

Phil
