Specifying User Name for Webmail

I inherited a Notes 6.5 system from our former SysAdmin, and have struggled with this annoying issue: for the life of me, I can’t figure out how the specify what user name is used for our WebMail logins. One user might have jsmith@company.com; another user might have John Smith; still another might have John Smith/Company. I’ve tried modifying or changing the orders of “User Name” entries when editing a person in our address book, but that hasn’t worked either.

Is there some other place I should be looking? A huge thanks to any help on this!

AFAIK, you can use any value in the User Name or Short Name fields to authenticate to the Domino server. Are some people able to login in with John Smith/Company and others can only log in with jsmith or John Smith?

Hi,

There is a setting on the ‘Security’ tab of the server document labelled ‘Internet Access’ - ‘Internet Authentication’. If this is set to “More name variations with lower security” users can use any of the names on their person document (including shortname, just their last name, just their first name etc…)

If it’s set to “Fewer name variations with higher security” then a user must use their full name and password. This second setting is recommended!
