Spam rules on configuration doc don't work

Hi all,

i try to get rid of huge amount of spam on our mail server. i really appreciate the new dns blacklist function in domino server.

but i have one problem that here in germany much of mails we need to get from a provider called gmx are on blacklists like bl.spamcorp.net, so we can’t use these blacklist domain.

ok, so i have the blacklists sbl.spamhaus.org; relays.ordb.org; blackholes.mail-abuse.org; dnsbl.njabl.org and they filter a lot of spam.

the rest of spam i try to filter out by setting rules in the configuration doc of our server.

i set the rules like “when internet.domain is xxx.xx then don’t accept message”.

since i use this feature for 1 month now i have about 60 rules applied.

today i got a message from one internet domain which i have in the ruleset for at least 2 weeks!

does anybody have a tip for me why that rule don’t work?

How can it be that i apply rules but the domain still can send mail to me?

Regards, Wolf

I would suggest using “contains” instead of “is”…

For some misterious reasons, my rules with “is” do not work.

I am using 6.0.2CF1 on RedHat 7.2 and Windows 2000 SP3.

hope this can help

Wolf, also take a look here you might find that the additional rule runctions like header scanning, signatures and header field checks may assist you to block even more mail. There are no add-ins required…

For what it’s worth, I had similar problems with rules (using 6.0.2CF1 on RedHat 8).

If you haven’t tried restarting the router, then it’s worth a shot - I was simply using “set rules” and one other command to force the router to update the rules, all to no avail. However after a router restart it finally recognised them and started blocking things…

Ok, first tahnks for your tips,

everytime after setting a new pair of rules, i

got to the server console and make a “tell router update config” and a “tell smtp update config”.

the server replies “xx rules updates…”

so i think that will activate the rules.

next think i try is change the rules to “contains” rather than “is” and hope it will help, also i will check the link you gave me.

Same here.

I users “is” rules for subjects.

I did open a ticket at Lotus/IBM and they confirmed this issue. Unfortunately I cannot find any SPR number.

From what the guy at IBM support told me the problem might get solved on 6.0.4 or later…

Maybe it is not going to besolved in 6.0.x but on 6.5 :((((
