I have recently installed SP4 for 8.5.1 Standard Notes Client. Since installing the update the mail preview is quite often blank when I select a message from any view. Also occasionally when I open a mail message the content is blank, if I close the message and re-open the content is shown. This is not the case for the preview option, I can select another message and another message and the content for each message selected in turn is blank in the preview panel. I am using preview on side but selecting preview on bottom makes no difference.
Me too, only today I noticed that I had tiny (almost “squished”) vertical scroll arrows atop each other along the rightmost top margin of the body area, right below the header area. Next time it happens I’m going to see if I can grab a border and drag it down.
BTW, I ‘fixed’ it by opening some non-MIME messages in preview mode (not actually opening them in a tab).
It happened again… the small scroll arrows are functional, and I can scroll thru the message and see one line at a time, and even select & copy text. However, I can’t grab the frame and resize it.
Anyone verify this behavior, or hear anything from IBM about it?
I forwarded a MIME message to another Notes user, who replied back. The reply is partially visible in the preview pane; there is a frame border halfway up the screen, with the message on top and blank space below. I can drag the border up and down, as well as scroll.
If you open your mailfile on the server does it look OK or is it still as described? If OK then problem is on your machine and may be fixed by renaming bookmark.nsf to Bookmark.nsf.old (or whatever) If this doesn’t work then youi can rename back. Can also try deleteing cache and renaming desktop8.ndk file/ If the problem is still. there then try replacing mail template
Subject: Same Issue - Preview pane hanging up / not working
I have actually been seeing the same issue. This was a clean install of 8.5.1 that was updated to FP3 and then FP4.The preview window seems to hang on some internet messages, then it basically stops working correctly for any messages. If I close the mail tab and reopen it it seems to start working again.
My bookmarks and all supporting files were new with the install of 8.5.1.
This thread talks about a “side preview pane”, but I’ve had issues with the bottom preview pane.
It appears to be a problem with the embedded browser (disabling the embedded browser seems to get around it).
The SPR is JADS88FRKF
Currently, IBM doesn’t have any ETA on resolving this problem–not entirely sure they realize they have a real problem.
Everyone with this problem needs to open a PMR and reference the SPR to get the weight high enough so that IBM will consider fixing the bug. If everyone complains but only 1 or 2 people open a PMR, it my never get fixed!
… but after renaming bookmark.nsf and cache.ndk and restarted it solved my problem.
Actually I later went back to my old bookmark.nsf and it still worked.
So the problem for me seemed to be related to cache.ndk.
EDIT: The problem came back. After deleting cache.ndk fixed it again. Now the problem seems to come back after previewing a certain e-mail in my inbox. Eg. I’m able to re-create this problem.
Since installing FP4, some messages make my preview disappear (for this and all other messages). When opening the message, the text is shown again, just the preview remains blank.Closing and re-opening the inbox will make the previews appear again.
Up until now I am not able to reproduce the issue, so I cannot confirm it is from exchange mails, however, will have a look into it!
Had similar problems with FP4, blank preview & even blank messages. Header there but no body. Turned off the mime browser, seemed to fix problem. I noted some other messages saying they had crashes after this, not so far for me, but will keep watching.
