Sorting display format in one field based on another

I have designed two fields in adjacent columns which generate a list of items. I want the results in the 2nd field to line up properly with the first(sometimes the first column has something thats 3 lines and things become out of place), how can i fix that?

Subject: sorting display format in one field based on another

To my knowledge there isn’t a simple answer to this question:

When I’ve had to work around it I’ve user tables with multiple rows, fields and lotus script to populated the fields with a single value. The problem with this approach is you are limited by the number of rows you create on the table.

FieldA1

FieldB1

FieldA2

FieldB2

FieldA3

FieldB3

FieldA4

FieldB4

FieldA5

FieldB5

FieldA6

FieldB6

FieldA7

FieldB7

FieldA8

FieldB8

FieldA9

FieldB9

So let’s say A is a persons name

And B shows their phone number

So

Jane # 123-456-7890

Tom # 123-456-1111

and # 123-456-1211

Sally # 123-456-2222

       # 123-456-9876

       # 800-456-5000

Steve # 123-456-1321

So you want to get something like this?

Name

Phone Number

Jane

123-456-7890

Tom

123-456-1111

123-456-1211

Sally

123-456-2222

123-456-9876

800-456-5000

Steve

123-456-1321

Then you use a hide when formula to hide the last 2 rows when @thisvalue =“”

But if you have 6 more names, then you need to add at least 4 more rows.

Is this what you’re trying to do?

An alternative approach is find the maximum multiple values and put place holders (I’ll use “-” below) in so the list are the same lenght. So in the above example the maximum number is three (for Sally) then you just go through the A list and B list and make each one have 3 items for each grouping:

A list becomes

“Jane”:“-”:“-”:“Tom”:“-”:“-”:“Sally”:“-”:“-”:Steve":“-”:“-”

B List becomes

“123-456-7890”:“-”:“-”:“123-456-1111”:“123-456-1211”:“-”:“123-456-2222”:“123-456-9876”:“800-456-5000”:“123-456-1321”:“-”:“-”
