Solution: Turn Off Outlook Smarttags in 7

Just an FYI:

We experienced the following issue: The Outlook smarttags in Word for Send Email, Address, etc are always “on”. No matter which options in “AutoCorrect - Smarttags” we “uncheck”, we cannot get the default links to outlook hide themselves (they have Outlook installed becasue they were an Exchange customer, but now they are Notes. Uninstalling Outlook is not an option since they need it to “read” their old information).

SOLUTION: The Smarttags for Outlook appear to be controlled in the registry in the section: My Computer / HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Office / Common / Smart Tag / Actions / {339361CD-6723-455D-A40B-C95F1F91FF8A}

I renamed mine to {339361CD-6723-455D-A40B-C95F1F91FF8A_ms_outlook}, and the extra options disappeared.

I am in the process of creating some LotusScript that I can embed in the PostOpen of the mail template that will automatically rename this key. This way, when each user opens their mailbox, it will automatically do the “rename” for them. I will post the code when complete.

Also, this key is used for Excel. It is used for dates, and the smarttag says “Open My Calendar”, which points to the Outlook calendar (Notes doesn’t support Excel smarttags yet).
