Hope this helps someone experiencing a “JVM terminated. Exit code=8096” Notes (Standard) client crash . . .
Recently had an R8.0.2 Notes Standard client that would load to the login prompt, then post login you would see the Notes start-up banner with the progress bar in the top-left filling up to about 30%, at which point you get a crash with “JVM terminated. Exit code=8096” at the top of debug text. The user thought that their laptop had previously run out of battery and died while Notes was running.
Re-running the 8.0.2 install and selecting “Repair” did not solve the problem, nor did de-installing & re-installing SUN Java (v6 Update 11).
SOLUTION: Delete all files in the Windows temporary folder (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings<user>\Local Settings\Temp). Apologies that I did not determine which …\Temp folder/file you have to remove to solve the 8096 error.

Subject: JVM terminated. Exit code=8096
That’s a simple and excellent solution.I deleted all the files and folders in the temp folder and restarted the machine, which fixed the issue
Thanks
Subject: Delete XPDPLAT
The folder in Temp that causes JVM Terminated Error=8096 is XPDPLAT. Deleting that folder will fix the error.
