SOLUTION...HTTP Web Server: Function Not Implemented Exception

For anyone interested…

There are 2 servers : server A - internal and server B - external.

The external server did NOT have Session authentication enabled in the server document (Internet Protocols\ Domino Web Engine - Section : HTTP sessions, Field : SessionAuthentication). Once switched to SSO, that enabled me to then POST logins. So far so good.

A separate, but second problem then raised it’s head. SSL was enabled for this database. A keyring file existed on the internal server. When testing the POST on the external server, Firefox was giving an error “Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at xxxxxxxxxxxxx”. IE was giving a DNS error!!! I am not the admin of these servers, so do not know if anything being logged in domlog.nsf, but nothing was being logged to the console. We turned SSL off on the server, but in Firefox when browsing to the DB you could see the URL “roll over” from http://… to https://… So it was getting to the database, that’s when the Admin realised, but there’s no keyring file on the external server. Aha!!! Unchecked the “Requires SSL” for the DB, everything ran correctly. The Admin will create a keyring file for external server, will enable SSL again, and retest.

=============

I have come accross a HTTP server error I have not come accross before. I have searched this forum and google, at present, without success. Any pointers would be greatly welcomed…

I am POSTing, successfully a login form to a domino web servers, with a redirect.

This was performed on an internal network. Also performed on an external facing web server.

I have now performed this to another web server, that is also accessed from within an internal and external network.

When POSTing the login form internally, it works sucessfully, but if I post from the intenet to the external address, I am getting the following error:

HTTP Web Server: Function Not Implemented Exception

I have a feeling it is a server\ firewall configuration issue - not allowing automatic POSTs from outside the internal network.

If have been testing a number of methods, but I get the above error with the 2 methods below. Please note - the below is for testing, the actual POST will happen over SSL (which has been tested successfully) and the username and password will not be stored in the form!!!

Method 1=============

<title>Test Portal</title>

This is the Test portal section

<IFRAME name="lplink" id="lplink"  src="" width="100%" height="500">

Method 2=============

I also get the error if I perform:

http://mywebserver/somedatabase.nsf?login

As usual, any comments or suggestions would be gladly welcomed.

Hi Nick,

Couple of things - do you have session-based authentication enabled on the server that is giving you the error? If not, that might be the culprit. But if you do already have it on, what happens if you change your “?login” references to “&login” (or to go even further, “…somedatabase.nsf?OpenDatabase&login”).

Do any of these work?

Stephanie, thanks for your response.

You were correct, Session Authentication was NOT enabled on the external server, once enabled, everything worked great (well nearly!!! See my main post for another hitch we had).

Many thanks for your help.
