Snooze on calendar alarm brings Notes client app to front?

We’re in the process of an 8.0.2 rollout, and we’ve noticed the following:

  • Notes client open

  • working actively in another app

  • Notes posts a calendar alarm window

  • User clicks Snooze

When the user clicks that Snooze button, the Notes client window pops to the front and focus, despite that the user was working actively in another app. This seems to be a behavior change from our previous version (6.5.x). Has anyone else noticed this? I can’t seem to find a configuration setting that controls this behavior.

We have a number of users who are finding this extremely annoying; any guidance would be appreciated!

Subject: We too have this problem

We are currently in pilot, and it is one of the bugs we would like to fix (or have fixed)before the rollout in january.

Do your users have issues with getting icons to “stick” on the bookmark bar (and other customisations like the preview pane)? That is also a big one for us

Subject: no issues with “sticking” icons…

We didn’t have a lot of people using many bookmark icons here, but I use them heavily. The Open list was making me a little nuts, until I realized that I could Dock it (under View menu) and then add all the bookmarks I wanted by the normal process (right click database icon, select Application → Bookmark, then choose Bookmark Bar.)

It does seem a little counter-intuitive to still call it the “Bookmark Bar” there, if it’s called the Open List until you dock it, but that’s just me.

Subject: Same Here

We moved to Notes 8.0.2 earlier this year and are now on FixPack1.

We are experiencing both problems - namely the snooze button taking the user back to the Notes window and the icons not sticking on the bookmark bar (open list). In fact, we’ve had problems trying to get the default homepage set for our users. We use a custom Notes database for the user and have had to jump through hoops to get it set as the default database to open when starting the client.

The most effective method we have used is to run the Basic Notes client (nlnotes.exe) and set the homepage there. Once set, then run the Standard client and it seems to stay.

Anyone been able to resolve the snooze button returning to the Notes window issue?

Subject: Has there been any feedback as to why?

We too are getting increasing calls from dissatisfied users who are losing focus from other applications after clicking on snooze.

Is there any way around this?

Subject: only one workaround suggested

Lotus suggested that the only workaround for this is if your client is minimized, the alarms will not steal focus. The trick is remembering to minimize Notes when you move away to work on another application. I have a number of users here that find the issue extremely irritating, and it frankly bugs the heck out of me too. This is still an issue in 8.0.2 / 8.0.2 FP1.
