SMTP won't route to SMTP server

Upgrading from 6.5 server to 8.5 server. The current production 6.5 server is set up to route SMTP mail out of the domain and we also have a clustered back up server. We then built a DOmino 8.5 test server on Red Hat Linux as an additional server on the domain. Then set the server domain documents for this 8.5 server to the same as the production server.

But when we try to send mail outside the domain from the new server it fails. Istead of the mail being sent outside, it gets send to mail.bcx on the clustered server. And the message on the console says that the destination server is not a recognised TCP address, when shoud not be routing to the production server, it should be going out to the SMTP server.

Does anyone out there know what possibly could be going wrong?

Thank you.
