Hi,I’ve been looking for an answer on this one but not had much joy so here goes.
We have a 2 server cluster where server1 has a connection document for SMTP which routes mail at once when 1 message is pending to our Mailsweeper server and onto the internet.
Server2 doesn’t have anything for SMTP and I’m wanting to know if all I need to do is add a connection document which is setup the same as Server1 and thats it. At the moment if something happens to Server1 and a user failsover they can’t send email outside of the company and I’m hoping just adding the connection document is all I need.
Thanks

yes, set your clustered servers up the same, ie server config doc, connection docs, etc, etc and they’ll work the same in the event one falls over.
you don’t have to actually cluster replicate any databases if all you want is the functionality clustered.

Hi,
I thought it sounded about right. I think the easy way for me to test would be to create the SMTP doc and then connect my Notes client to my mail file on the second server and do test before and after. In theory it shouldn’t route mail and then hopefully it will.

If you have 2 Mailsweepers then you can create a DNS alias entry with MX records for the 2 mailsweepers IPs
Then in the Domino connection document just use the DNS alias name as the destination server.
Works well.

Hi,The outgoing stuff works great the only thing I need to reconfigure is the Mailsweeper. We’ve got an entry within Mailsweeper which is a Forced entry to the one Notes server so I think I just need to set this as a default one with a MX value and then add an Additional entry with a higher MX value to make sure it routes primarily to server1 unless this dies.
Thanks
