I know I’ve posted something like this before but it’s got weirder.
Scenario 1
Someone in our office sends a memo/meeting invitation to an internal group. Everyone bar one person gets the memo/invitation and someone outside the company also gets the mail.
Senario 2
Someone in our office sends a mail to a friend whose address is in their personal address book. Another person sends a mail to a friend from their personal address book. There is no crossover of addresses in both books. The first mail goes to the two recipients, the second mail goes no where.
Scenario 3
A mail is sent from someone in our office to a goup which includes internal and external addreses. Some of the external addreses receive no mail but when the group mail is sent from an external account everyone gets the mail.
Server version: 6.5.3 OF1
OS: Windows 2000 SP3 patched up to date
Anti-Virus: AVG 7 for Lotus Notes. Up to date.
Anti-Spam: Spam Sentinel
What I’ve tried so far:
Recreated the mailboxes
Added SmtpSaveOutboundToFile=1
SMTPClientDebug=1 to notes.ini
The issue(s) are random but I wonder if they may be related to the fact that my server has been upgraded from 4.6 to 5.0, 5.01… 6.0, 6.01,…6.5, 6.5.1… 6.5.3OF1? Is there a chance that I’ve got some sort of hybrid server?
Any ideas or has anyone had these issues?
Subject: SMTP sends to wrong recipient
Hi Gary
While in your Domino Directory go to View, press ctrl+shift+ click Go To, then choose the hidden view ($Users).
Examine the entries in this view and compare entries with the people who should receive the various emails but don’t. Effectively Domino uses these entries to address (resolve) recipients. Often one expects that mail to say Jim@abc.com to go say an outsider but in fact if someone’s person doc in the Dom Dir includes Jim, then he is the person who gets the mail.
Examining the ($Users) view often helps with address resolution issues.
Goof luck

I’ve done that and have found the name of the guy that didn’t recieve a group mail. His name and email address is quite unique and doesn’t bear any resemblance to the address or name of the person who got the mail in error.

Hi Gary
Thanks for your response to my earlier post Re AVG.
Regarding your mail routing problem, have you done a mail trace (in a test memo: Delivery Options/Delivery Report/Trace entire path)?
This should give you a bit more info about where the mail is going. You may be able to identify the node after which the routing goes wrong.
I assume mail goes out via the Domino server and that the mail box is empty and also if going out via local box, that is empty too.
Have you also checked log.nsf and/or the console to see if there is anything unexpected mail not being delivered etc?
Another issue to check is the full header info on the mail that has gone to the wrong recipient. Again this will show you all the nodes/servers the mail has passed through including the actual addresses and IPs.
If I think of anything else, I’ll come back to you.
Good luck

Hi Bizhan,
I could send you a copy of a header that went to the wrong recipient. Mail me at gcousins @ electricpaper . ie and I’ll send it on to you. I don’t want to post it up here, I’m sure the people involved have enough spam already.
