Once in awhile we come in and smtp mail stops flowing to our relay host and I see the below in the log.
Eventually it frees up after a few reboots and messages transfer. Is this issue on our end or on our domain relays end?
01/02/2007 07:22:08 AM Router: Internet SMTP host xyz in domain isx.f.c
01/02/2007 07:22:08 AM Router: No messages transferred to isx.f.c via SMTP: Remote system no longer responding
01/02/2007 07:22:13 AM Router: Failed to connect to SMTP host because Remote system no longer responding

looks like the problem is either in your connection to isx.f.c
or, that there is a problem with isx.f.c.
Is isx.f.c your relay? is it hosted internally or is it a hosted service?
Subject: RE: SMTP Mail to Relay failed
yes it is our outgoing relay for internet smtp mail
hosted externally
when it is not working we cannot nslookup to the domain
we receive timeouts
Subject: RE: SMTP Mail to Relay failed
you said that you could not resolve the name using nslookup. Are you running that from the Notes server or another pc.
I’d try both and maybe a hosted nslookup like:
http://www.kloth.net/services/nslookup.php
Kinda sounds like this could be a DNS issue on the server that is unrelated to Notes/Domino.
It would probably be best to sort that out and fix it, but as a workaround you could either add an entry to the servers host file for the relays common name and address or change the “Relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain:” field to the relays IP address rather than its name.
Hope this helps.

Running it on the domino server.
I added the entry in the hosts file to do local host lookup if dns fails so we will see how it works.
thanks
I have the name instead of the ip in the relay host field due to if the one server fails it goes to the second server.
Thanks
