We are running ND 6.0.1 on our SMTP mail server. Is is a Win2K machine with 2GB memory. We thus far have 39 system filters enabled for SPAM and Pornography control. We recently have begun experiencing the following error:

The only technote or reference to this error I have found is relating to an old version of Notes R5.0.3 which states a memory leak occurs when processing mail rules. See the Technote below.
We have to reboot the SMTP server when this error occurs. Has anyone else experienced this problem in ND6? A possible regression error?
Any help would be welcomed.

You are trying to send mail and you receive the error "Insufficient
Memory - Local Heap is full". The Notes log for the Domino Server also
reports the error trying to transfer messages to the recipient.
Solution #1:
This problem is related to mail rules being applied by some users.
This issue was reported to Lotus Quality Engineering and has been
addressed in Domino 5.0.3.

We are running 6.0.1 on W2K. The problem has disappeared since we quit the router task, did an updall -r on our mtstore.nsf database, and restarted the router task.
(Perhaps there a link between message tracking and this problem)
I do not have a solution to your problem but can report that our Domino server is also having this problem. (It is currently running WIN 2000, ND 6.0.1) I actually noticed it today after receiving reports that some SMTP email being generated from an AS400 program where being kicked back. The error message suggested that the SMTP connection was failing at certain point during the ‘hand shake’ phase.
When I looked at the log, we received the following error.

Rebooted the box and am waiting to see if error messages appear again. I will also have the AS400 report run again to see if the all emails get routed with no problem.
I am also using the Server-based rules to block SPAM via content-filtering and are also blocking approximately 175 domains which I am sure cause a greater load during the routing process.
After several weeks of dealing with the “heap is full” meesage and stoping and starting the smtp and router tasks. I pruned down the list of domains that I was blocking from a few hundred down to under a hundred.
Since then the “Heap is full” message went away. This ain’t a fix but it does offer potential clues to the cause of the “heap is full” error message. Has anyone at lotus tested the impact of a listing a large number of domains in the Server config doc?
