SMTP and POP not working when accessing Mail box using the web!

Hi there,I’m a bit confused as I am not able to send or receive external mail when accessing mail box using HTTP.

I either receive an error in my console telling me that the domain (ie: yahoo.com when trying to send a mail to bob@yahoo.com) is not answering (and the mail stays as pending), or I receive a delivery error message telling me that the DNS didn’t find the external domain!

Do you know what could be wrong???

This is a personal server I am using for testing. I have a DSL connection and I have a non static IP. For accessing my server I’m using a domain name with a soft updating automaticaly my IP.

When using the client, I’am able to send and receive external mail, but I have created acounts connections in my pers address book. Is there any way of having those connections working for all my users or how do i need to configure my sever so it will automaticaly use SMTP. I’ve set the SMTP stuff in the configuration tab/ messaging/setting option (SMTP used when sending messages outside of the local internet domain: enable.

Where can I specify the use of an external DNS server such as microsoft or IBM DNS servers?

I know there is a lots of questions and that I migh have been a bit confusing. If you need any further details, please send me a mail (sylvain.tournaire@prod.steria.fr). I’m comming back using notes after a long time and new version is not helping the “souvenirs”

Thanks for ur help,

Sylvain

ps: by the way how many nested folders max are allowed?

On your test server have you set up an Internet Site document for SMTP?

This may not be the answer, but its worth checking!

Also, is there any useful info in the Log?

Hi Paula,

First of all, thanks for having answered

I have checked the internet site connection document, and I’ve only found entry for SMTP inbound, and thing is that inbound works great!

The problem I have is that I am not able to send mails to external domains, exept one!! (in the list of 4 i’ve tried)

here is some part of the log:

working domain:

18/06/2003 13:18:03 Router: Transferring mail to domain ASI.FR (host ASI.FR [195.248.0.11]) via SMTP

18/06/2003 13:18:03 Router: Transferred 1 messages to ASI.FR (host ASI.FR) via SMTP

Error # 1: The message stay as pending!

18/06/2003 13:25:39 Router: No messages transferred to INFONIE.FR (host INFONIE.FR) via SMTP: The server is not responding. The server may be down or you may be experiencing network problems. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.

18/06/2003 13:25:44 Router: Failed to connect to SMTP host INFONIE.FR because The server is not responding. The server may be down or you may be experiencing network problems. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.

I’m receiving a mail from Steria:

18/06/2003 15:36:59 SMTP Server: relais2.prod.steria.fr (213.30.181.34) connected

18/06/2003 15:37:00 SMTP Server: Message 004ACC7F (MessageID: 000e01c3359f$0eb28ac0$1808320a@CLO) received

18/06/2003 15:37:00 SMTP Server: relais2.prod.steria.fr (213.30.181.34) disconnected. 1 message[s] received

error # 2: I receive a return receipt telling me that the DNS Serveur didn’t find the external domain!

DELIVERY FAILURE: No route found to domain prod.steria.fr from server SERVER1/SLY_CORP. Check DNS configuration.

If you have any idea!! They are more than welcome!!

Thanks again,

Sylvain
