We’re running Symantec SMS for Domino 5.1.2.28 and Domino server code 7.0.2 on Intel boxes Windows server 2003. When the Domino server crashes with a Panic or when a NSD is done, SMS will not reload as a task. When I try to load ntask from the domino server console I receive the message:SMSDOM: The SMSDOM server task is already loaded.
The only way to get SMSDOM tasks running again is to reboot the Intel box. This is a problem, especially when you have multiple server instances running on the same box. Anyone experiencing this same problem and if so, know of a solution?
Symantec is little help since they keep telling me to install the next version. I believe this started with SMS 5.0.1 but can’t remember.

Are you running on a 64-bit OS? I had the same problem and yes symantec said updating will fix my problem. The version I updated to is v5.1.3.29. This did not fix my problem as server still crashes but I’m running on win 2003 server x64 and don’t know if symantec mail security has a problem with 64-bit OS.

We saw this recently and opened a Symantec problem ticket because we saw the issue on this forum but not the answer - a very helpful Symantec chap came back with this, the second suggestion of which worked right away for us:-
"Two things to look for:
If NNTask is still running you should be able to see it in Task Manager. If it is there, kill the process. Now try to load SMSDOM.
If SMSDOM still does not start look in the Domino data directory and go into the HIDDEN folder SMSNDB. Delete the sINNTASK.dat file. Now try to load SMSDOM.
Once the above 2 steps have been performed you should be able to load nntask again correctly."

I’m also having a problem with SMSDOM not restarting properly when Domino Server is shut down and then restarted in the same session. It only comes up properly after a restart of the operating system. OS: Server 2003
SMSDOM: 7.5.0.19 (dated 6/11/07)
This server also runs AntiVirus Corporate Edition (managed by another server).
