We have started to upgrade our clients to Release 8.5 using SmartUpgrade and it has worked fine so far. I use the Administration tab to add users for a specific release of Notes 8.5. But i have ran into a problem with couple of users. When the users tries to upgrade using the Tools Notes SmartUpgrade function it reports that it could not find a macthing kit to use. I have checked the Tracking Reports for more info and the only thing found was the users notes login name could be a problem. As our users names contains nordic characters. The SmartUpgrade log reports the trademark ™ instead of the character ö. Could this be the issue why it’s not matching kit’s ? Is there any solution for this ?

Subject: SmartUpgrade fails to find matching kit
I’ve run into the same issue with the same upgrade versions as described here. I think we went down the wrong path looking at the InstallType=6 or 2
While true some installs here were the Notes/Admin/Dev client with only the Notes client selected others were not. The problem I run into is that some users try the SmartUpgrade, the systems says there is not matching kit but it is finding the version, server and smartupg.nsf and then they try the next day and it lets them upgrade! I am seeing many anomalies when it comes to letting users upgrade that does not seem to be notes.ini related
My point is I really don’t want it to care what it thinks it sees or needs but that it install the kit associated for that users.
Can smartupg.nsf be streamlined to install upon request? What does the database look for and what does it look at for the upgrade?
