Smart Upgrade

Good news, I have got the Smart Upgrade working fine now from 6.0.1CF1 to 6.0.1CF2.

As a note to watch out for there is a notes.ini parameter UPDATE_TIMER=26/06/2003 15:21:16, which seems to appear in the top section of the ini file. This sets when the client next checks for an auto update.

If your testing and deline an update, it sets this variable ahead the amount of time you specified (default seems to be 1 day). Just set it back to earlier than the current time and date and when you next restart notes it will again kick off an autocheck. Otherwise it won’t auto check again until that date and time are reached.

Don’t forget you need to EXACTLY get the current and destination release names correct

e.g. Release 6.0.1CF1

using the Help-About in Notes should give you the required format.

Don’t forget that you need to populate the “Allowed Users” field on the Adminsitration tab of the Smart upgrade kit document, with the name(s) of the people who are authorised to use that smart upgrade kit. By default field is blank so no one gets it.

Also that you need to check which QMU should apply to each user. Typical mistake is to use the client one and find as an Administrator once your upgraded its removed your design and admin clients.

Finally I use the following switches which give a basic, minimal information screen for the user.

/s /v"/qb!+"

Think thats about it, good luck. (oh and yes don’t forget to paste the smart uprgade database link into the relevant mail server’s configuration document.

I ran the smart upgrade successfully with no optional switches. When I add the switches you have listed I get an InstallShield parameters dialog box and the upgrade fails. What could I be doing wrong?

I performed the same steps and I am getting your same results. Has anyone successful used these arguments with Smart upgrade?
