Smart Upgrade

I am trying to upgrade my Notes clients from version 7.0.3 to version 8.0.2 using a Smart Upgrade policy and a Smart upgrade kit. When I force the Notes 7.0.3 client to make a Smart Upgrade it tells me that there is no matching kits found in the Smart Upgrade Database. I have checked the upgrade kit for any configuration errors. When I upgraded from Notes version 6.5 to Notes version 7.0 I made the exact same configuration and that worked fine. Below is the error log I get from Smart Upgrade Tracking Report

Subject: Smart Upgrade Source Configuration

Ensure it’s set to Basic not Standard. And if your trying to go from Basic to Standard 8.0.2 it’s hit and miss. I have a PMR open with IBM and they told me it’s not supported but they have no documentation to say that.

Subject: Smart Upgrade

Thanks for your input.I have selected “Basic” and added LocalDomainServers and the test user to “Allowed Users & Servers” field. Still same problem. I’m running an English Notes client on a Danish Windows XP. Could this cause any problems? No problem when I upgraded from 6.5 to 7.0.3

Subject: Check KitType=1

I was having the same problem on a test box provided to me and I found out that KitType=1 wasn’t even present in the Notes.ini on the client mahcine. I added that line and it detected the kit.

Subject: Create 2 different kits and it will work…

I had similar issues. When upgrading from 6.5.4, it worked good but couldn’t upgrade from 7.0.3

Read the redbook and it said:

If both Version 6.0.5/6.5.4 or previous clients and 6.5.5 or higher clients are

installed, separate Smart Upgrade Kit documents will be required for each version

group; one for 6.5.4 or earlier, and one for 6.5.5 and later. If there are Notes Client only

and All Clients Notes installations as well, then specific Smart Upgrade Kit documents

will also be needed for each of these.

I created 2 kits with one saying ‘No’ to ‘Release 6.5.4/6.0.5 or previous?’ another saying ‘Yes’ to it.

It worked like a charm

Subject: Two kits worked for me…

Creating two kits, as described, worked for me, for doing a Install Shield tuned, SU Runas configured file, with an install.bat included to get the parameters I wanted.

Thanks for posting your info! Helped a lot!

Subject: User enablement

My bet is that you forgot to put the username in the “Users and servers enabled” field (Admin tab) ?!

Subject: Notice this in your log: “%s on %a”…

This matches a bug that is currently open under SPR#: EZEL7JESRF. It was seen when upgrading the ‘All Client’ (Client, Designer, Admin) if using an 801 Domino Server. Not seen if upgrading the Client only. Is this what you are seeing?

I recommend you create a PMR with Support to have a customer report created against the SPR, if this is your issue.

Thanks!

Subject: Smart Upgrade

Thanks!

Yes, it’s a “Client only” upgrade kit. If there is anybody experience the same problem. Please let me know.

Subject: ‘$activekits’ error

Hi. I experience the same problem.Upgrade to 8.0.1 worked perfectly.

8.0.2 throws an error about wrong package.

In the log file appears this error:

‘$activekits’ error

Has anyone a solution?

Thanks

Micha Blankenburg

Subject: Smart Upgrade - no matching kits found in the Smart Upgrade Database

The notes.ini file contains information about the installed release. The parameter “InstallType” tells the Smart Upgrade kit which release you are running. If the parameter “InstallType” is set incorrectly then the upgrade kit will not work. If you change the “Release 6.5.4/6.0.5 or previous” setting to “Yes” then the upgrade kit will not use “InstallType” to determine release.

Subject: I have users getting this too

I have been trying to roll out my smartupgrade and it clearly been a miss everytime. I get users whose LN say there are no matching Kits, Users who complete the upgrade process but then Smartupgrade says it failed when it hasn’t. Just a big pain for me.

Here is a screenshot of mine. All the Surunas file is is the Kit file with the following parameters in it:

-d -s -a /s /v"ALLUSERS=1 SELECTINSTALLFEATURES=SametimeUI,Editors,Feedreader /qb+!"

Subject: For Joseph Hanke, Try this:

/s /v"ALLUSERS=1 SELECTINSTALLFEATURES=SametimeUI,Feedreader /qb+!"
