I’m in the process of using Smart Upgrade to upgrade from 8.0 to 8.5. Most installations are working perfectly, but in one instance the upgrade worked fine until the user tried to open her mail and received the error “The file is damaged, obsolete or intended for a different operating system”. From what I’ve read this happens occassionally with desktop.ndk files, but I haven’t heard of it happening with a mail file, expecially when nothing with the operating system has changed. I donloaded a new replica and all is fine, but wonder if anyone else seen this error?
Subject: Why do you think this is a Smart Upgrade Issue?
More likely the new 8.5 Version of the Notes Client detected a problematic with the current mail file local replica…
Did you save the bad mail file? I would suggest opening a PMR with Lotus Support and send them the bad file… Also open a PMR that says to improve the error message to state what file was the problematic file in question…
Subject: resolution for this issue
I recently faced the same issue, getting this error while opening a mail file… a simple resolution is to remove bookmark for the mail file from your workspace and open it by Ctrl+O, it worked for me, otherwise, removing bookmarks.nsf and restarting Notes Client should be probable solution.
Subject: Desktop.dsk
Some times for this message, the entry on desktop.dsk is wrong too , so You will need to erase the database entry on Desktop and add again using CRTL+ O
