Has anyone experienced problems with smart upgrade for 6.5.5 clients going to 7.0.2. All clients from 6.0 to 6.5.4 are successful and are able to upgrade using File / Tools / Notes Smart Upgrade. In contrast, all 300+ 6.5.5 clients get the following failure message…
“There were no matching kits found in the Smart Upgrade database smartup.nsf on Server/Domain. Please notify your Notes administrator POLICY: /Corporate DESKTOP SETTINGS: CorpDesktop01 DEPLOY VERSION: Release 7.0.2”
I’ve read the redbook on SU and I’ve tried every possibility with the Source field in the SU database. The reader fields are set correctly. I’ve also tried while using the setup settings for policies. etccccc…
At a minimum users are able to download the kit manually from the SU database and do the upgrade but I need the Notes integration SU offers.
I think you’re right. The catch is my servers are still running Domino 6.5.4 FP3 which means the SU database template does not have the form options available in 6.5.5. I wonder if I can update the template without upgrading the servers??? I’m not ready jump to Domino 7.0.x however the 7.0.2 client has been very stable for the test users I’ve upgraded.
The other item I noticed which was interesting in the client SU logs…
IN=Type IV=Notes Client Only {655}
IN=Type IV=Notes Client {654 and below}
The “Type IV” log listing for 6.5.5 clients “Notes Client Only” where as previous version only show “Notes Cleint”.
I think I need to go to atleast Domino 6.5.5 to get SU to work with 6.5.5 clients until I’m officially ready to jump to Domino 7.0.2.
Upgrading your servers to 6.5.5 should let you use the new options in SU.
The client Notes.ini has an InstallType= setting. This is used by SU to determine what type of client is installed and upgrade it based on this - Domino release 6.5.4, 6.0.5, or previous don’t have this setting.
It lets you decide what smart upgrade does when it finds a Notes client or a Notes/Admin/Designer client - and install the correct upgrade kit.
A good Red Book on upgrading to 7 can be found here, it takes you step by step through the process:
