Slow Performance, Availability Index

We have Lotus Domino Server 7.0.2 FP1 with 150 users collaborating with a big (30GB) common nsf file (CommC.nsf).The problem is that lotus performs really slow above 60-70 users.

Availability index is approx. 20% average, but there are a lot of times that it is stuck to 0%.

The server runs SUSE LINUX ENTERPRISE SERVER 9.0 SP3 (2.6 kernel) with Dual Intel Xeon 3.2 GHz, 8GB RAM and 1 EMC RAID 10 system.

The system’s statistics show that “update” process is usually on D state which is “Uninterruptible sleep (usually IO)”, but the RAID array utilization is low. So the process isn’t sleeping due to disk bottlenecks.

We have replaced our EMC with a Hitachi Raid system on a try and buy bases with 8 disks Raid 10 and 3Gbytes cashe but still the problem of low availability exists. Now we are thinkig that this is the end of line for us for Domino and looking to migrate to other platform. We have return the Hitachi since we have not seen any better availability index.

Do you have any opinions/suggestions to check?

Thank You

Subject: Slow Performance, Availability Index

We have added to the Suse Linux server 16Gbytes Ram and the response has increased users do not complain, wait for io is minimal and it looks ok. The availability index average is still low we had an increase of 2% only. Now Domino scales better but still low availability index.

Reporting for others facing similar problems.

Thanks

We are also facing the same problem as we are using suse 10 with 8GB RAM and Xeon processor. the availibiity index goes to 15% or sometime higer but mostly it stucks on 0%

please suggest the solution

we have reinstaleld SUSE linux and then again copied data but same problem. this problem we are facing is on cluster server
