Single user R5 to multi user ND6 client migration

G’day,We are in the process of preparing a packaged application rollout for a client upgrade from a single user R5 client installation to multi user ND6 client installation. Upon starting notes for the first time after logging in to NT there is a local configuration screen that appears to configure a notes.ini as it requires name, user.id, proxies, etc however this would be unacceptable for 300+ users.

Our current configuration is such that we have a directory in an individualy mapped network drive that contains names.nsf, notes.ini, bookmark.nsf, desktop5.dsk and user.id and we have pointer files in the local data directory to the files on the network drive. Although primative, this works well for roaming users.

I have managed to point the desktop icon to start in the network drive directory and the ND6 client starts up and upgrades the relevant databases however these databases obviously are not copied down to the users local NT profile therefore we will not be able to use the roaming feature in ND6. As we want to relieve ourselves of the dependency of a file server to allow notes users to roam, we realy need to be able to seemlessly upgrade our R5 single user install clients to ND6 multi user clients without end users being prompted to configure the client.

If anyone else has had similiar issues or can offer any advise, that would be very much appreciated.

Cheers.

Shorty.

Subject: Single user R5 to multi user ND6 client migration.

The Notes 6 Data directory is place in d the NT profile under the user settings: “C:\Documents and Settings%username%\Locale Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data”.

Copy your Notes Network data to this directory, before you start notes. Remember to correct the notes.ini file, to reflect the new setting.

If you want to place the data directory elsewhere, change or set this registry setting: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus\Notes\6.0]“NotesIniPath”=“E:\Lotus\Notes\Data\notes.ini”

To use, the users local NT profile, we found is a give and take. Yes The NT will roam the files, but it is a lot of data you have to roam. This will take a lot of time to transfer data to and from the local computer.
