Is there any plan to create a separate thread for Sametime within the Notes client so that when the Notes UI is locked in a process you can still access Sametime conversations/activity? I think this would be a significant improvement, but I don’t know if it is possible.
So far the only way to achieve this disconnect is to run the stand-alone Sametime client separate from Notes. The downside of that is that you loose Sametime awareness from within Notes.
As much as I hate all things M$ I think they got it right in that respect. Running Outlook and Communicator you can carry on messaging activity independent of what is going on in the Outlook client (not that there’s much besides mail… oh wait… there’s nothing but mail going on there), yet when you are in a message header or the GAL you can start conversations seamlessly.
I have to hand it to them. They did their homework on this one. I really hope that Notes 9 and Sametime 9 have this level of interoperability or that the Notes client with embeded Sametime will allow separate threads so that if you are in a complex view refresh or something that locks the client so you can still message. I guess this comes with the territory when you have a complex client that can actually do something more than mail and calendaring.
Cheers
