Single Domain Migration

We are a small company with 25 users and need to migrate from Notes domain A to Notes domain B. We prefer to use the native tools if possible vs. purchasing extra tools. The budget just does not exist. Needless to say, we need to retain access to old mail Dbs inc. private folders, calendar entries, etc. Does anyone have any “50K” steps re: a migration. I have a high-level knowledge… know about recertification, server rename, etc. I’m hoping someone knows of an existing whitepaper/doc or can list the steps 1-10. Any assistance appreciated. I know that domain migrations can be complex… but I’m hoping that our single server, 25 users will ease the pain. Thanks team…

Michael,

I would probably searc the Lotus Knowledge Base and technotes for information regarding mass recerts, domain migrations etc. I’m not sure if there are any out there but even documents on mail server consolidations would contain some valuable info.

Two technotes that might be helpful are:

#1102484

There is no one way to accomplish this task. Start with the basics and get your new naming convention nailed down. Next, get the “new” server completely ready in terms of the NAB, configuration, etc before moving mail files on to it.

Also consider creating cross-certs between your old server and new servers, so mail files can replicate. Prior to replication of the files, also add the user’s new name to the ACL of the mail file, so they can access their mail on the new server with their new id.

If you only have 25 people, you may be able to get away with a manual client-side migration (updating location docs, connection docs, etc). If you wanted a more automated method, an email with a button that kicks off some LotusScript would work well.

I think as long as you have the new server working in parallel with the old and set up your environment to route mail, replicate between the servers, you should be fine.

Good luck,

-Trey
