Single Copy Template Problem

I can not get the Single Copy Template feature to work. I have a multi-partitioned Notes 6.01 server running on Windows 2000 SP3. I did a file, database, new copy from the existing INotes60.ntf file to local and named it “INotes R6 - SCT”. Went in to this template and have the following settings on the design tab :- Checked Inherit design from master template (ExtR6Mail)

  • Checked Database File is a master template )INotes60-SCT)

  • Checked Single copy template

I then did a file, replica, new replica of this file unto my development partition

I then created 2 new mail files on my development server. One from the regular “INotes Web Access (R60)” template and one from my “INotes R6 - SCT” template. I was expecting to see a difference in the file size of these 2 mail files, but both of them ar at 12M. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

regardless of what the help says the SCT flag is not transferred during a replication or copy operation, it must be enabled manually at each location the database resides

in other words you need to enable it for the new replica you just created on your server

oh, and whatever you do, don’t change the name of the template once SCT is enabled and it has been assigned to a database, you’ll end up with unuseable mail files. if you really need to change the name reassign the template on all databases using that SCT template to another template, run the design task, then rename the original template, just make sure that nothing is using an SCT flagged template before you change it’s name

Also, if you want to see the database size reduced after running design you will have to run compact with the -B option to reclaim the free space.

Thanks everyone. It’s now working. Went from 12M down to 1M.

As far as I know, SCT will only work if the template is on the same server as the databases that reference it (the server needs the design somewhere that’s accessible). Consequently, try putting the SCT template on the same server as the mail files (you mentioned it’s local).

Also, I believe the design task has to run before you’ll notice a difference (which is another reason why the template has to be on that server).

Hope that helps.
