Since using FP4 the designer client doesn’t work at all anymore. It can be started but becomes unresponsive almost immediately.

Subject: Need more information
Hi,
We’ve not been able to reproduce any issues with Designer 8.51 FP4 (testing on XP). Can you provide any more details?
Are there any specific steps that cause the problem to occur?
Does the problem occur just launching Designer without any databases in Applications view, or only with databases in the view? Any databases, or specific database(s)?
Does the problem occur immediately just launching Designer, or when you open a database (expand it in the Applications view). If the latter, any database or specific database(s)?
If the problem is specific to opening certain database(s), can you provide the database?
If the problem is specific to opening certain database(s), does it still occur if you disabled the Eclipse LotusScript editor? You can disable this in Designer preferences
After you exit/crash, can you save off and provide the following logs, as available?
Notes\data\Ibm_Technical_support\console.log
Notes\data\Ibm_Technical_support\nsd*.log
Notes\data\Ibm_Technical_support\javacore*.log
Notes\data\Workspace\logs\error-log-0.xml
Notes\data\Workspace\logs\trace-log-0.xml
Thanks,
Vin
Subject: Some more details
No, it’s not specific to a database. Happens while opening the designer directly but also by using “View-Design” on any database.
The database will never be opened because the hang happens directly after Designer is started. It’s just a it runs andn runs and runs but never reaches a point were the database will be opened or at least Designer will be opened completely.
Went back to FP3 as well as 8.5.2 CD5 … no problems in both cases. So this happoens only with FP4.
Sorry, no logs. Was forced to do a clean re-install due to a known Windows error that stops any upgrade/downgrade by telling that the previous version can’t be uninstalled.
Subject: Thanks, but I’m still not clear…
Does the problem happen if there are no databases in the Applications view, or only if there are databases? E.g., with no databases in Designer, can Designer be opened directly by itself or from the Notes client? If Designer can be opened directly with no databases, does the hang then occur trying to open any db? If only happens with databases in the Applications view or when opening db, are they server, local, or both?
Are you running Windows XP or Windows 7?
One other thought that might help, if you haven’t already tried, is to rename your data\workspace directory and rebuilt it - it will rebuild automatically when restarting Notes. You’ll lose some of your settings, but this will clean out anything that might be causing problems. If that fixes the problem, then please restore the bad workspace, run the Support Data Collection utility (Help - Support - Collect Support Data) from the Notes client, and provide the output.
Thanks again,
Vin
