Simultaneous Document Edits

Hi,

I have a question about Lotus Notes that maybe you all can help me out with. I am looking for a document management system that allows for users to simultaneously update documents. I heave heard that Lotus Notes has this functionality. I guess I have two main questions:

  1. How does Lotus Notes handle simultaneous document edits? If 2 people open the same document and make changes to the same information, how does Notes know which changes to keep and which to ignore?

  2. How difficult is it to set up Lotus Notes on a small scale? I am looking at about 10 users, and the only feature I am really interested in is the simultaneous document editing.

I really know very little about Notes/Domino, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Simultaneous Document Edits

Hi Matthew,

  1. Notes/Domino can be configured in at least 3 ways for conflict handling (on a form level):
  • create a conflict (save the second document as a response, so the conflict can be resolved manually)

  • merge conflicts (merges changes; if the same field was edited in both documents - acts as above)

  • “latest wins” (no conflict)

  1. Well, I consider it easy to set up a small Domino/Notes community. There are good Admin books, and the out-of-the-box help is quite extensive - it may be enough.

HTH,
