Sign in with user's ID file to troubleshoot

We just upgraded from 5.02 to 7.02. In rel 5, we kept backup copies of all the user ID files with a default password and would sign in with that password when we needed to troubleshoot.

How do I achieve the same result with rel 7? If I recover the ID, it will make the user change their password the next time they sign in. If I try to sign in with an “old” copy of the ID, it requests me to change the password (which I don’t know).

Many times we need to sign in with a specific user ID to troubleshoot and sometimes the users are not available to send their ID and password. How does anyone go about doing this?

Thanks!

Willy’s comments aside (he makes a good point), you should still be able to swap to and use your backup IDs - I often have to do this to enable to Out of Office agents for users who’ve forgotten to do it themselves. If Notes is asking you to change the password, then it might be as a result of a policy setting that is enforcing password settings - perhaps they could be eased.

I agree - although Willy makes a good point, sometimes it is just not practical to do so. Most times, I really need to use the backup ID so I can truly “be that user”. Unfortunately, management does not want to ease up on the password settings since we are now allowing users to access their mail via the web. I just can’t believe Lotus does not provide a way for administrators to swap ID’s.

I am rather surprised, that this still seems to be accepted practice in many occasions.

I - as an administrator - would NOT want to to be potentially held responsible for messing around with other users ids. Even less would I like this to happen as an end user.
