Show who is editing a document

Hi,

I am running with document locking and was wondering if there a variable I could show in a view that that would display if a document is being edited and perhaps who it is?

Thanks, Paul

Paul, whether it’s possible or not, what you’re suggesting requires the view to be permanently updating. Presuming document locking is a problem, it sounds like you have lots of users, so for each of them to have a “live” view showing whether each document is being edited or not is going to kill your server.

By the way, I don’t think it’s possible anyway

Subject: Thanks but actually…

Hi Phil,

Actually I was only looking for a temp view for myself so that when I do some document maintenance, I would know which documents to avoid. Sometimes I select a bunch of documents to alter then apply an agent. The agent runs fine until it hits a document that is locked by someone but unfortunately I don’t get much feedback to tell which document is locked. It then becomes a significant search effort to find.

By the way, I still haven’t figured out why some documents get locked such that the user has to right click it in a view and select “unlock document”. Do you know how this happens? Does a user not exit a document and then shuts down his computer or something like that? I also wish there was a way to unlock without having to contact the user and have him do it… many times I know they are no longer accessing it.

Anyway, a lot of wind here…

Thanks for your response, Paul

Subject: I would add a field

To the doc, that is set when it’s locked and removed or blanked out when the lock is released
