Show Conversations not working

When I click on the Show button in my Inbox & then choose Conversations, I see the yellow info bar telling me that I should only see the latest message in each thread. However, I see all messages as individual items. I do not see the expandable conversation hierarchy that I expect to see.

Both the sender & recipient in my test conversation are using Notes 8.5 (Standard version), the mail85 template & their home server is the same Domino 8.5 IF2 server. Mail file properties for both mail files show that the Don’t support specialized response hierarchy is NOT checked & the Support Response Thread History IS checked.

Is anybody else experiencing this issue &, even better, know of a fix. I have already tried rebuilding cache.ndk, bookmark.nsf & desktop8.ndk but no luck there.

Our mail server is Domino 8.5 IF2 for System i (v5r4).

Thanks,

Bill

Subject: $VIEW_CONVERSATION_MODE=2

Same problem for me. OpenViewThreads=1 did not work.

Eventually I found a NOTES.INI entry that brought back conversations in my mail database:

$VIEW_CONVERSATION_MODE=2

BUT: Notes seems to hang more often now than before. So I’m not yet fully convinced but would like to hear from others whether it works for them.

Regards,

Ruedi

Subject: Still not working for me… Any other options?

OpenViewThreads=1 did not work.

Neither did…

$VIEW_CONVERSATION_MODE=2

Everytime I go back to my Notes.ini file both settings are back to either 0 for OpenView and 1 for $view_conversation.

Not sure what is happening, can’t get the options to stick.

Thanks!

Subject: I also miss “Conversation”

I have the same problem. Seams to be client related. One client (Only-clien) it works fine, on another client (Admin-client) in the same mailfile it doesn’t work. Any news on this? Serves are Release 8.5HF467 on Linux.

Subject: OpenViewThreads=1 did it for me

This worked for me:Stop the Notes clien and set OpenViewThreads=1 in the NOTES.INI

Then it worked. OpenViewThread got reverted back to 0 but conversations works even after restarting the client…

Subject: Set OpenViewThreads=1 while Notes is running

I set OpenViewThreads=1 while Notes was still running and then shut down and restarted Notes. The setting persists through the restarts and Conversations view now works.

I have used it with a Notes 8.5.1 client and a local mail file replica based on the 8.5.1 template and a server replica using the Notes 8.0.1 template.

BTW, if you select any member of a message thread in the “Individual messages” view the conversation twistie will appear and you can view the entire conversation by clicking the twistie. The twistie does not appear until you select the message, however.

Subject: Now it works…

I put the ini variable to the desktop settings to distribute it to all users. After two restarts (the first to get the setting, the second that the Notes client know about it) it works fine.

Thank you for the tip.

Greetings

Subject: INI edit works but does not fix

I can shut everything down, edit the INI as suggested and the first start of the client after that it works. Once the client is shut down and restarted it is back to not working.

client 8.5 w/ designer and admin

server 8.5.1

Subject: Conversations not showing

Anyone any ideas

Subject: Same here

With a couple of roaming users (not all) “OpenViewThreads” is always resetted to “0”. Setting it to “1” works only up to the next restart.

Notes and Domino are both version 8.5.1.

Subject: Same problem here

Tried all kinds of things but never get the twisty.

Subject: Same Problem Here

I am running 8.5 FP1 on i5/OS V5R4 with 8.5/8.0.2 client on XP and I get the same problem.I’ve tried the Notes.ini setting OpenViewThreads=1 but this seems to make no difference.

Does anyone have any news on this? I will open a PMR in due course and post the response, but in the meantime… if anyone has any suggestions…

Subject: Same problem

Open one mail file from my computer… See conversation icon. Open a different mail file from my computer. No conversation icon. Strange.

Does the mail file need to be Indexed for conversations to work correctly?

Subject: Doesn’t work on server mail copy - works on local replica…

I can’t understand why it doesn’t appear on the server copy, but my local replica works perfectly with it. Although it’s not an ideal scenario.

Subject: Got it!

I did the ini change while Notes was running, closed Notes and reopened it. I’ve closed and reopened it a few times now and it continues to work.
