"Show Calendars" option missing

I have a strange problem. In my calendar I have an option “Show Calendars” that allows me to overlay calendars.

In another persons calendar, the option is missing.

See http://tom.be/calendar.jpg for a screenshot.

We are both using the same version of Lotus Notes (8.5 with FP1) and both databases have been upgraded from 6.5 to mail85.ntf

If I open the other persons database on my computer, it does not show the option. If I open my database on the other persons computer, it does show the option. so my guess is that it’s in the database design.

However… both databases have the same design (StdR85Mail v 8.5 10/30/2008). I’ve even tried replacing the design of the other persons mailbox using the template on my computer, but the problem remains the same.

Does anyone have a clue of why that is? As the help files refer to that option on several places, I can only assume that it should normally be there, but it isn’t.

Regards,

Tom

Subject: Delegation?

Is the affected User (or Group/Everyone) enabled/disabled for access to your Calendar?

Subject: Possible answers

If their name doesn’t match the Owner that is specified in the applications’s Mail Preferences then it will be hidden. Also, it can be turned off by an admin so they should check any mail policies that are applied.

Subject: Thank you

The problem was indeed the owner. The user has been recertified under a different unit, but the mail database still refered to the old one. After changing the database owner using Actions > More > Preferences, and then the Mail > Basic tab, the option showed up.

Subject: What about me?

I’ve looked at your solution and am not sure this is my issue…

The owner is listed as John Henderson/server name/company/US. I clicked ‘change’, then found myself in the corporate directory and re-selected myself with no change.

My company uses 8.0.2… I have upgraded my own client to 8.5 - could the server not yet support this option yet?

Could it be an admin issue?

Could it be something missing from Notes.ini?

Best regards,

John

Subject: doesn’t work for me either

name of database and id are the same. still “add calendars” entry missing. any ideas?

thx

Subject: ID file needed replacing.

When I had the problem, replacing the ID file with the original default ID file fixed the problem.

Subject: Show Calendars still absent

I have checked that calendar access is granted, and also that mail file Ownership is correctly assigned. There are no discriminatory policies applied and using the original ID did re-show the Show Calendars option, however trying to ‘Add a Calendar’ returns a ‘collectJob’ error with a java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException detail. This occurs also while opening the user calendar in the admin client so the issue surely must be with the mail file. a complete replace of the mail template makes no difference. Possibly a deletion of the relavent design elements prior to a design replace would accomplish something ? Could someone identify all the design documents relating to the Show Calendars feature ?

Subject: My own situation resolved

I ended up trying all the suggested solutions above and either one worked, or a combination worked, because my user can now see the Show Calendars element in the selection panel, and access the add facility.I do not believe the ID recertification made any difference, and the additional icon column in the display had no effect either. The impression I get is that replacing the design with a bespoke template, then deleting the $Calendar view and (CalendarProfile) form, then re-assigning the required design template, resolved my particular issue.

Subject: Same issue

I just saw that it is possible to sync Google Cal and Lotus Notes through the ‘add a new calendar’ feature… but I am not able to see this either.

I have access delegation enabled.

Can you be more specific about how to identify the probably issue?

  • How can I verify that my name matches what it needs to be? I’m on a corporate server, so I’m pretty sure that’s specified in my user.id, right? I can’t imagine that my company has my name as one thing one place and something else with respect to the calendar.

  • How could I test whether it’s just been disabled by my corporate admins?

Best regards,

John
