"Shared Memory from a previous Notes/Domino run has been detected, this process will exit now"

The last few mornings I have awoken to find my Domino server down. The error is “Shared Memory from a previous Notes/Domino run has been detected, this process will exit now”

I am running W2k with 2GB of memory, seems to crash in the early hours of the morning.

I added some memory related notes.ini setting based on DCT recommendations and this morning I have commented out the memory related one.

;FTG_USE_SYS_MEMORY=1

FT_FLY_INDEX_OFF=1

;NSF_BACKUP_MEMORY_LIMIT=104857600

SERVER_NAME_LOOKUP_NO_UPDATE=1

UPDATE_FULLTEXT_THREAD=1

DEFAULT_INDEX_LIFETIME_DAYS=14

DISABLE_BCC_GROUP_EXPANSION=1

IOCP_Disable_Async_Notification=1

LOG_DISABLE_SESSION_INFO=1

MailLeaveSessionsOpen=1

RNR_NO_CALCSTATS=1

LOG_AGENTMANAGER=0

Any help is appreciated

Subject: if you remove all these settings, does the server still crash in the early hours of the morning?

Subject: W2003R2

Hi,i’ve the same problem on Windows Server 2003 R2 and Domino 8.5, with the same error.

My server seems to crash in third day from start in early morning hours.

When you enable Automatic Faul Recovery do something change?

Subject: Win2k?

Hi… You’re running 8.5 on Windows 2000? I thought that was “unsupported”? Prior to this have you had any other problems?

Subject: Are any nsd files being generated?

Do you have Automatic Fault Recovery enabled? It sounds like you Domino Server is crashing and then not getting cleaned up completely before an attempt is made to restart the Domino Server again… That’s where you might see the error you are finding in the morning… So possibly a few problems here… .The initial crash and then the fact that nsd did not clean up completely before a server restart was attempted. When you respond to this post please also mail me at jpaganet@us.ibm.com.

Subject: No NSD Created

Thanks for the response John, there are no nsd files created.

I do have Fault Recovery on.

I also setup Fault Reports, but nothing gets created in there either.

Subject: is NSD enabled?

In the server document, under the ‘basics’ tab, under the ‘automatic server recovery’ section, what are the setting values?
