Shared Login/Roaming/ID Vault

In the Admin help the following phrase makes you believe that you can use roaming with shared login if the ID vault is used but a couple of other phrases in the same document says that shared login only works on one pc. Can anyone share a bit of light on this.

from Admin Help

If Notes passwords are not used (recommended):

  • Shared login-enabled IDs that are stored in a Notes ID vault can be used from more than one Microsoft Windows computer without requiring users to make copies of the ID file.

Subject: Results

I did more testing and here are my result.

If you use shared login with roaming (without roaming the ID) and the ID vault. When you log in on another machine for the first time, the ID is downloaded from the ID vault and you need to enter the original password. After that Shared login kicks in and you don’t need to enter the notes password on that machine again.

Subject: Shared Login and Roamig User

Roaming user is not officially supported with shared login in this release, and thus has not been tested.

However, there is nothing to preclude one from configuring roaming user with shared login and id vault. In this case, the roaming id must not be set to roam in the personal NAB. A consequence of this configuration is that for each computer where Notes runs through setup, a login will be required. If cleanup is set to immediately then login in required each time. If set to never cleanup then login will be required only the first time.
