Shared installation

Hello,We have a situation where some 7.0.2 clients appear to be installed in a shared network installation mode i.e. the client program files reside on a file server share and the data files are local. This was not intentional and we may have to redo some of these installations.

What would be the simplest way to re-install these clients without losing their settings?

Hi Peter,

That sounds bad. The files to retain for each user are…

desktop6.ndk (this is the workspace icons and private views); user.id; names.nsf; bookmark.nsf.

Personally, I would make copies of the above fioles, uninstall the app, trash the old data dir and reinstall. After installation but before configuration, You should then place the legacy (retained) notes data files into the new data path. Then launch notes and complete workstation setup.

Note: You may also wish to retain perweb.nsf (if they use notes as the browser) or journal.nsf (if they use it).

Most of the user settings configured via File\Preferences\UserPreferences are actually written to the notes.ini. However, I wouldn’t recommend you retain the notes.ini in your case because all the file paths in it would need to be changed manually.
