Setup Domino server to send and receive Internet email

I realize the answer to this would be very long and detailed so I was wondering if someone could give me a place to look for the answer?

Every company I’ve worked at has either already had this done before I started or used something else for email.

I’m trying to set this up on my home PC so I can learn it. I have a cable connection to the Internet and was hoping to use that as the “pipe” for my Domino server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: If you installed the Admin client…

… you have the admin help at your disposal.Open the help document “Configure domino to send and receive mail over SMTP” and start from there.

Good luck.

I did read through that and followed the steps but get a message when I try to send to my ISP’s account for me that it’s an invalid address. I guess I’m not sure that I can basically create my own mail server and still use my ISP to mail to.

If I’m trying to be my own mail server would I setup a smart host?

Subject: You could try that…

… it could help you if your dns configuration is not correct or if the ISP blocks port 25 for external communications.

I didn’t think about my ISP blocking port 25, I’ll check that out.
