I’m looking to install Domino locally only with no external access. I would then like to try and mimic a production environment with a Domino server and then a Notes client connecting to it. I don’t need mail, just a connection to the server on the SAME machine. What is the trick in accomplishing this?
Subject: Setup Domino Server Locally
-
install Domino software2) copy over data dir from production
-
copy notes.ini from production and change directory= parameter (maybe check some other file paths that are different in production)
-
disconnect the network cable !!
-
change hosts file on that PC so that YourServer/MyCert is listed next to localhost (so 127.0.0.1 localhost YourServer). This prevents any ‘outbound’ connections to the production environment
-
install the client on that PC, it should connect to your local server (at least if you don’t have explicit connection docs that would override the hosts file)
-
remove all connection documents in the address book (to prevent replications/mail routing to production) and check the Net Address field in the server documents to prevent mail routing between servers in the same NNN
-
you can now reconnect the network cable (or work disconnected)

This is a completely new install so I don’t have any settings that I can copy from production. I want to “mimic” a production environment, not clone an existing one.
Thanks

ah k that simple. Install Domino and Notes on the same machine, start Domino and perform the config (settings don’t really matter if you just want a server). Add the CN server name to your local hosts file. Create some user and you’re rolling.
There’s never 1 production environment. It depends on what you expect your Domino server(s) to do. Is it a web server, mail server, just Notes apps, … It all requires a slightly different approach.

Great, I’ll give it a shot.
2 more notes though…

I’d like applications on there as well

Where is local hosts file?
Subject: RE: Setup Domino Server Locally
Hi,
local hosts file on Windows XP :
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
Localy you can do all what you want with your server !

and if you want to put applications on the server you can copy them from a production server (but I guess you don’t have one) or create a new database based on a specific template (templates are on the server once you’ve installed it).
