@SetEnvironment & $ before setting

I’m attempting to upgrade some R5 clients and need to suppress the finel IM checkbox on setup. I’m trying to use the IM_NO_SETUP=1 via @SetEnvironment. It is not working… seems to be adding the $ in front. I saw something about the $ sign in the help but it didn’t add up. Is this keeping it from working? …assuming yes. Any thoughts?

The $ is prepended using the @function… using the LS option gives you no $.

I remember a long time ago someone showed me that if you prepend a tilde (~) before the name, it will get the $.

I have not tested it, so you might want to try it.

Thanks Matt… I’m wondering about this notes.ini variable. Have seen it on an IBM technote, etc… We do not want our users to see the Instant Messaging setup (just before setup is complete). It should be disabled. I read where the @SetEnvironment adds a $ every time (unlike SetEnvironmentVar in LotusScript)… wondering does this cause the notes.ini to be commented out? Any ideas on how to sort this issue?

You would have to use LotusScript (or at least, not macro language) to set a “system” notes.ini line. The documentation of SetEnvironmentVar explains how to do this pretty clearly.

You might, however, have better luck publishing your environment variable changes via administration policies. Also, I believe it’s fairly common when you have a lot of installs to do, to create a customized install kit that already has the selected options for your default user setup. I’m a development guy, not admin, and I don’t know the details.

Thanks Andre… been having a time with the transform file. I followed the IBM technote to a “T” (V_DIR, INIFILE section, etc…). It just not seem to add the notes.ini setting. Wish I could add (like the NOTESEMAILDEFAULT) the IM_NO_SETUP to the setup.ini… OK… Why would IBM/Lotus mention the @SetEnvironment or @Environment and setting notes.ini in the documentation!?! If it always prepends the $… hmmm. No way to @Trim the $, huh?
